Dragon Energy – Assistant Driller
Dragon Energy is seeking a motivated Assistant Driller to support geothermal drilling operations across the Richmond region. This is a hands-on field role supporting a Master Driller on residential and commercial ground loop installations. It’s a great opportunity to grow in the trade, work with specialized equipment, and play a part in accelerating the adoption of clean energy.
As we continue building out a strong pipeline of geothermal projects, we’re looking for reliable, safety-focused individuals who enjoy physical work, problem solving, and learning on the job. Prior experience in construction, drilling, or mechanical work is a plus, but we’re also open to training the right candidate.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with daily setup, operation, and breakdown of drilling rigs and support equipment
- Load and unload tools, casing, and drill rods
- Maintain a clean and organized job site and work truck
- Help mix and handle drilling fluids and grout
- Support geothermal pipe installation and backfilling
- Follow safety protocols and use PPE consistently
- Inspect tools and equipment and report issues to the lead driller
- Participate in routine maintenance and cleaning of the rig and support gear
- Be ready to take on new tasks and responsibilities as you learn
Preferred Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license (CDL a plus but not required)
- Previous experience in drilling, construction, mechanical work, or outdoor labor
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to learn
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work outdoors in various weather, and be on your feet throughout the day
- Comfortable working in a team and taking direction
- Respect for safety, equipment, and the property of others
- Demonstrates clear-headed problem solving and composure in high-stress situations, and the ability to effectively work as team when challenges arise.
