Dragon Energy – Assistant Driller

Dragon Energy is seeking a motivated Assistant Driller to support geothermal drilling operations across the Richmond region. This is a hands-on field role supporting a Master Driller on residential and commercial ground loop installations. It’s a great opportunity to grow in the trade, work with specialized equipment, and play a part in accelerating the adoption of clean energy.

As we continue building out a strong pipeline of geothermal projects, we’re looking for reliable, safety-focused individuals who enjoy physical work, problem solving, and learning on the job. Prior experience in construction, drilling, or mechanical work is a plus, but we’re also open to training the right candidate.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with daily setup, operation, and breakdown of drilling rigs and support equipment
  • Load and unload tools, casing, and drill rods
  • Maintain a clean and organized job site and work truck
  • Help mix and handle drilling fluids and grout
  • Support geothermal pipe installation and backfilling
  • Follow safety protocols and use PPE consistently
  • Inspect tools and equipment and report issues to the lead driller
  • Participate in routine maintenance and cleaning of the rig and support gear
  • Be ready to take on new tasks and responsibilities as you learn

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license (CDL a plus but not required)
  • Previous experience in drilling, construction, mechanical work, or outdoor labor
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to learn
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work outdoors in various weather, and be on your feet throughout the day
  • Comfortable working in a team and taking direction
  • Respect for safety, equipment, and the property of others
  • Demonstrates clear-headed problem solving and composure in high-stress situations, and the ability to effectively work as team when challenges arise.
