Summary
The Controller manages both the month-end close process and the transactional areas including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. This position assists the CFO in preparing and reporting financial statements that conform to principles of accounting and regulatory requirements per the company auditors. This position ensures that integrated systems are utilized to provide efficient, accurate and analytical support in monthly financial and operations accounting, as well as the annual operating plan. This position manages accounting for US entities, and is responsible for the consolidation of business units.
Responsibilities
- Update and distribute various monthly reports and charts, including owner’s and executive packages, Balanced Scorecard and Board of Director slides.
- Oversees, monitors and improve accounting procedures, internal controls and database management.
- Lead and direct the work of Accounts Receivable, Staff Accountants and the Supervisor of Accounts Payable and Payroll.
- Hire, train and supervise staff.
- Audits workflow to ensure that all accounting transactions are processed accurately and timely.
- Responsible for G/L transactions as it relates to accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll.
- Manage the annual financial audit. Maintain auditable monthly work papers in anticipation of the annual audit. Interface directly with auditors.
- Participates actively in integration of acquired entities, for their functional areas of oversight.
- Develops keen understanding of ERP system and how process flows affect financial accounting, AP, AR and payroll.
- Identifies untapped efficiencies in accounting, AP, AR and payroll processes and implements them.
- Leads change, and is a change agent.
- Reviewing financial data periodically to ensure fairness and completeness of the data.
- Developing system controls for ensuring data integrity.
- Developing proper operational, data documentation and troubleshooting procedures.
- Preventing inaccuracies in financial statements by setting up internal control systems and adopting proper policies for financial reporting.
- Handles special projects as requested by management.
- Reviews and justify expense reports and other expenditures.
- Coordinate international companies including keeping books and records in accordance with company policy as well as GAAP, ensuring procedures have adequate controls.
- Coordinate the people cost detail expenses for the budget process.
- Complete other responsibilities assigned.
Manages and directs Cost Accounting function
- Provide supervision and guidance to the Cost Accounting function
- Supervise preparation of monthly corporate financial information required to prepare financial statements.
- Preparation of required daily / weekly / monthly cost review reports.
- Provide support to Operations senior management with appropriate financial support and explanations.
- Provide support and input to Product Management team on product profitability and product rationalization.
- Maintain the integrity of the Cost Accounting system in IQMS / Spreadsheets Server.
- Calculate and maintain Excess/Obsolete inventory reserve.
- Partnership to Operations Teams - Proactively provide meaningful measures and metrics (KPI’s) to Operations management team, that allow for timely decision-making and drive improvement.
- Coordinates and directs preparation of the cost of sales budget and forecasts
- Work with departments heads to develop new standard costs each year.
- Explain variances from actual costs to standard costs and communicate results to senior management in an understandable and actionable fashion.
- Ensure accuracy and perform impairment review of plant fixed assets.
- Co-Lead (with plant management) the annual stock-taking (100% physical inventory) processes.
Requirements
- Minimum BA/BS in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience
- 7 to 10 years of accounting and management preferably in an integrated environment.
- Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience.
- Previous experience with IQMS / Spreadsheets Server a plus.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative skills to build relationships, resolve internal issues, and interact with Team Leaders and Executive Teams.
- Strong degree of initiative.
- Excellent analytical skills and strong problem resolution skills.
- High flexibility able to work on multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- Advanced Excel computer skills.
