Job Description

The Controls and Instrumentation Technician will play a key role in establishing and supporting new high-tech manufacturing operations in Acton, MA . This hands-on position involves installing, maintaining, and improving complex automated assembly and process equipment to ensure high machine uptime, efficiency, and product quality. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills in PLCs, HMIs, vision systems, servo drives, and control circuits, with the ability to troubleshoot, document, and lead continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, debug, and maintain automated assembly and process control equipment.
  • Program and troubleshoot PLCs (Rockwell ControlLogix), HMIs, and machine vision systems (Cognex, Keyence).
  • Perform electrical wiring, calibration, and system diagnostics for automation and instrumentation systems.
  • Execute preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize downtime and improve reliability.
  • Support equipment startup, qualification, and process optimization in collaboration with engineering teams.
  • Document maintenance activities, train operators and technicians, and contribute to SOP development.
  • Drive root cause analysis and implement process improvements for control and instrumentation issues.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience with automation systems, controls, and instrumentation in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, motion control (VFD/servo), and process control.
  • Knowledge of NFPA safety standards, electrical systems, and troubleshooting automation circuits.
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent technical training in Electrical, Mechanical, or Automation Engineering preferred.
  • Experience with SQL, Visual Basic, and machine networking is a plus.
