Position Description: The Fleet Operations Manager is responsible for keeping our truck operations rolling smoothly. We typically run between 8-12 driver schedules, with about 2-6 of those being OTR (Over the Road), and the remainder being local drivers that work a combination of dry van, open deck, and drayage freight. For our local drivers, we shuttle container chassis from our production plants to the local rail yards, and also coordinate the movement of product between facilities. For our OTR drivers, loads are booked by liaising with brokers and load boards, and back hauls are scheduled with clients around the eastern half of the US. The position also liaises with partners for fleet repairs and routine service/maintenance, to ensure our 12 truck and ~20 trailer fleet is kept running at optimal performance.

Standards of Performance: each is considered an essential function.

• Requires balancing schedules of multiple drivers, which can be demanding at times.
• While not often, drivers do require after-hour assistance at times, due to drive schedules, and availability via text is appreciated in the event repairs, etc. are needed.
• Requires punctual and regular attendance. Time away from work is approved and taken in accordance with established policies.
• Always delivers excellent customer service with both external and internal customers to ensure our customers, including our internal sales team, gets the information they need quickly, efficiently, and accurately. Must keep positive attitude with clients, even when presented with difficult scenarios.

Essential Position Responsibilities: 

• Manage dispatch of company trucks ensuring trucks have loads scheduled everyday; this requires proactive ‘load shopping’ for outbound hauls, leveraging load board tools, and relationships with brokers. Company freight is always utilized for backhauls to Michigan; however we don’t typically move freight outbound for our OTR drivers.
• Handle all communications with company drivers and ensure smooth operations; Build relationships with company drivers to ensure they felt heard, and valued, to ensure team is as effective as possible. Driver effectiveness leads to higher profitability.
• Handle recordkeeping related to company trucks including maintenance, drug and alcohol records, driver logs, HOS, IFTA, to ensure compliance and operating licenses are kept up to date.
• Coordinate all truck maintenance and repairs of trucks and trailers; knowledge of basic repairs, and the ability to decipher when repairs are needed, and ensuring costing is in line with norms is important for success in this role.
• Utilize company loads with internal logistics team to maximize profitability
• Rail bill containers via email or on appropriate websites to secure container loading appointments for our drivers.
• Be responsible for the profitability of the department; P&L Management for Division.

Qualifications:

• Cooperative team player

• Experience booking brokered loads for company drivers is required
• Experience Dispatching a team of drivers is required
• Experience being responsible for some level of fleet maintenance is required
• Experience operating a truck (CDL) is a plus!
• Experience using salesforce is a plus!
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Excellent time management skills
• Very organized and disciplined 

Salary: $75,000 + Division Profitability Commission (Estimated on Actuals for 2024 @ $10-12k)
