We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled GIS Analyst to join our team on a contract basis. This role plays a vital part in supporting the creation, maintenance, and analysis of critical geospatial infrastructure data used across Client Corporation’s Engineering, Operations, and Corporate business units.

The GIS Analyst will be directly involved in assembling and quality-controlling spatial data sets, supporting compliance with Positive Train Control (PTC) regulations, and contributing to the broader Enterprise GIS strategy. This position demands a solid understanding of geospatial principles, rail network geometry, and the ability to work cross-functionally with Engineering teams and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform quality control checks on geospatial data sets, approving and promoting updates made by CADD technicians in the Geospatial Data Group.
  • Utilize various GIS software tools to identify and correct topological and geometric issues during data review and validation.
  • Conduct regular inventory analyses that include spatial metrics such as asset counts, mileage, and other relevant system measurements.
  • Assist in the development of PTC Subdivision Files and deploy geospatial datasets to support enterprise-level initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and stakeholders to maximize the value of geospatial technologies in business operations.
  • Provide support to the Sr. Geospatial Data Analyst and assist in ad hoc GIS projects as needed.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and value generation through innovative GIS applications.

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • GIS Software Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of GIS tools such as ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, or similar platforms
  • Analytical Thinking: Strong ability to analyze spatial data and solve complex geospatial problems
  • Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot data inconsistencies and recommend practical solutions
  • Decision-Making: Capable of making informed choices with moderate supervision
  • Project Management: Ability to manage and prioritize multiple GIS tasks and projects simultaneously

Education & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Graduate Degree (optional) is a plus

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working in railroad, transportation, or utility sectors
  • Familiarity with track geometry, rail infrastructure terminology, and field data integration
  • Understanding of PTC compliance and related geospatial requirements
  • Experience with Enterprise GIS systems and data governance

This is an exciting opportunity for a GIS professional looking to apply technical expertise in a high-impact environment supporting mission-critical infrastructure.
