Job Description

Los Angeles -- Fast growing Mid-Size Company specializing in personal care products is seeking a Lead Contracts Counsel with 3-6 years of relevant experience to join its Legal team. Must be barred in California. This position is hybrid (in-office 3 days per week, including Tuesdays and Thursdays).

This role reports directly to the General Counsel. This high-visibility, high-impact role will shape and execute commercial legal strategy while working closely with business teams across marketing, sales, technology, and supply chain.

Responsibilities include drafting, negotiating, and managing a broad range of commercial contracts, balancing business growth with risk mitigation and ensuring compliance with applicable laws. You will also implement scalable contract processes to improve efficiency across the company.

This role requires strong organizational skills to manage a high volume of competing projects and tight deadlines. You must be able to communicate clearly with business counterparts to determine what truly needs to be prioritized based on business objectives, not just legal risk. Additionally, you must be skilled at translating legal concepts into clear, practical guidance for non-legal stakeholders to ensure alignment across teams.

What You'll Do

  • Manage a wide range of commercial agreements
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements while balancing business objectives.
  • Advise internal teams on contractual risks, obligations, and best practices.

  • Stay highly organized while juggling multiple high-priority projects and competing deadlines.
  • Communicate clearly with business teams to align legal priorities with real-world company needs.
  • Translate legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance for business stakeholders to ensure alignment and informed decision-making.
  • Provide strategic insight on key business transactions, helping leadership understand contractual obligations, risks, and opportunities.
  • Support cross-functional teams by bridging legal complexities with business realities.
  • Maintain and improve the company’s contract management software and processes.
  • Stay current on legal trends affecting contracts and commercial transactions.
  • Assist with additional legal projects as needed.

About You

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active membership in the California State Bar.
  • At least 3-6 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in both law firm and in-house settings.
  • Extensive contract experience, with the ability to independently draft, negotiate, and review a variety of agreements, including:
  • Technology : Vendor, contractor and SaaS agreements, including DPAs
  • Operations : Retail, distribution, 3PL, manufacturing, formulation, and supply agreements
  • Marketing : Influencer, sponsorship, and marketing agreements
  • Product : IP licenses and collaboration agreements
  • HR : Employment and separation agreements
  • Misc : NDAs, event agreements, and basic leases
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple high-stakes projects and deadlines.
  • Strong business judgment to prioritize legal tasks based on the company’s actual needs, not just legal risk.
  • Ability to communicate complex legal concepts in a clear, practical, and business-friendly way to ensure alignment across teams.
  • Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently.
  • Clear and effective communication skills to collaborate across legal and non-legal teams.
  • High standards, accountability, and a strong sense of urgency.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, contract management tools, and legal research databases.
  • Industry experience in consumer products, eCommerce, or personal care is a plus.
  • A positive attitude, adaptability, and a good sense of humor.

💰 Compensation: $150,000 – $190,000, commensurate with experience + bonus.
