HNM Systems provides direct hire, contract to hire, and professional placement to the Telecommunications, Utilities, and IT sectors. HNM also offers turn-key engineering services for the design of outside and inside plant, power utility, and Wi-Fi systems. The telecommunications, utilities, and IT industries are essential to buildout affordable broadband networks and strengthen cybersecurity for decades to come.

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Systems Designer to support critical public transportation and communications infrastructure projects across New York City. This role focuses on the design of high-voltage electrical systems and electro-mechanical solutions for underground transit environments — including the integration of 5G wireless , Wi-Fi interconnectivity , and emergency communication systems in subway and tunnel systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create detailed designs for high-voltage electrical systems supporting public transit and underground infrastructure.
• Support the electro-mechanical integration of communications systems (5G, DAS, Wi-Fi, Emergency Radio).
• Develop and review drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and specifications.
• Collaborate with civil, structural, and systems teams to coordinate multi-disciplinary designs.
• Support field verification, installation, and commissioning activities.
• Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 130, IEEE, MTA standards, and applicable codes.

Ideal Background:

• 7+ years of electrical design experience, ideally focused on transit, infrastructure, or large public works .
• Strong knowledge of high-voltage systems (600V–35kV) and low-voltage communications systems .
• Proficiency with design tools (AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar).
• Familiarity with communication systems: DAS , 5G wireless , Fiber/Wi-Fi networks, Emergency Communications .
• Previous experience supporting underground transit projects (subways, tunnels) highly desirable.
• Associates degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience. (Bachelor’s in Engineering a plus but not required.)

Compensation & Benefits:

Pay Rate: Starting at $60.00 per hour.
