Job Description



The Senior Manager of Packaging Procurement will oversee all aspects of packaging procurement with a strong emphasis on strategic category development, sustainability, and responsible sourcing. This role is pivotal in driving Total Delivered Cost (TDC) savings initiatives, embedding sustainable practices across the product lifecycle, and ensuring supply assurance through strategic supplier partnerships.

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in procurement category management and sustainable packaging, along with a proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders across corporate and operational levels. As a senior member of the procurement team, this individual will also support special projects and represent the function in broader company initiatives.

Responsibilities

Strategic Category Management & Cost Optimization

  • Develop and implement strategic sourcing plans for packaging aligned with procurement principles and corporate KPIs.
  • Lead cost savings initiatives under TDC guidelines, identifying opportunities for process optimization and innovation.
  • Analyze market dynamics, supplier capabilities, and competitive trends to inform strategy and ensure supply continuity.

Sustainability & Responsible Sourcing

  • Drive sustainable packaging strategies and integrate responsible sourcing practices throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Monitor and report on sustainability metrics, ensuring alignment with corporate environmental goals.
  • Represent the company in industry forums and working groups focused on sustainable procurement.

Supplier Relationship & Risk Management

  • Oversee supplier selection, contract negotiation, and vendor management to ensure quality, cost competitiveness, and strategic redundancy.
  • Apply Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) principles to build long-term alliances and mitigate price volatility risks.
  • Stay informed on regulatory changes and industry best practices through active external engagement.

Cross-Functional Leadership & Project Execution

  • Lead cross-functional teams across product development, manufacturing, marketing, and engineering to execute procurement-related initiatives.
  • Support new product launches and graphic management processes, ensuring timely and cost-effective packaging solutions.
  • Manage procurement involvement in marketing-driven projects and ensure alignment with business unit goals.

Team Development & Leadership

  • Mentor and develop procurement professionals, foster a high-performance culture and supporting career growth.
  • Provide guidance and support direct reports, ensuring alignment with departmental objectives and company values.
  • Promote compliance with company policies and legal requirements, while managing budgets and tracking performance metrics.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business, Engineering, or related field; master’s degree preferred.
  • 5–7 years of strategic procurement experience in the CPG industry, preferably in a food manufacturing environment. Packaging category experience is a strong advantage.
  • Proven success managing procurement across multi-site operations.
  • Experience in supplier development and strategic commercial agreements.
  • Advanced knowledge of strategic sourcing, sustainability practices and negotiation.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills.
  • Effective in cross-functional collaboration and consensus building.
  • Excellent written, oral, and presentation communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and procurement systems (e.g., SAP, Coupa).
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects and allocate resources effectively.
  • Comfortable interacting with internal stakeholders (senior management, R&D, FSQA, legal, finance, engineering, etc.) as well as external partners at senior levels (suppliers, trade associations, etc).
  • Able to travel up to 25%.
