Job Description

KPM Law, an established, mid-sized law firm is seeking two  Attorneys for their Workers’ Compensation team.  The successful candidate will be handling cases from inception to final hearing. We seek candidates who have strong organizational skills, are detail-oriented, and are able to work in a fast-paced environment. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are required. This is an in-office position, with some flexibility to work from home on occasion.

Job Type: Full-time, In Person

Pay: commensurate with experience

Qualifications:

  • Law degree and valid license to practice in Virginia
  • Knowledge of workers' compensation law preferred, but not required
  • Litigation experience preferred, but not required
  • Understanding of medical terminology and ability to interpret medical records
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • In-depth legal research skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Outlook
  • Ability to learn litigation management software
  • Ability to work well in a team environment

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and investigate claims to determine validity and assess liability
  • Challenge fraudulent claims and dispute causation
  • Conduct depositions
  • Engage in settlement negotiations
  • Participate in mediations
  • Litigate cases in administrative hearings before the Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission
  • Maintain dialogue with clients and insurance carriers and give legal advice on handling of claim
