Overview This position was created to address a sizeable inventory challenge across the 3 automotive parts stores. Currently, there is no single point of accountability for ordering and inventory processes across the network. The Inventory Control Lead will analyze and tighten ordering, transfer, and return processes to reduce excess stock, improve cash flow, and strengthen the process control of store personnel. The role will collaborate with the VP of Service and work directly with the Corporate Distribution network to challenge and refine auto-replenishment and return practices.
General Responsibilities and Tasks/Duties
- Analyzing inventory and sales data to identify excess, dead, or misallocated stock. (30% time) o Construct weekly reports and metrics o Lead aged inventory reviews
- Reordering. Challenging store-level ordering decisions and corporate auto-replenishment recommendations. Find best practices in placing orders, resulting in more discipline and accurate reordering. (20% time) o Establish common reordering rules, with special attention to 3rd party suppliers o Manage exceptions to rules
- Reduce inventory. Find creative solutions to return, transfer, or liquidate slow-moving inventory. Special attention to 3rd party suppliers. (20% time)
- Transfer first. Coordinating transfers between 3 stores to balance stock efficiently. Establish transfer first mentality (15% time)
- Corporate Liaison. Working with NAPA corporate contacts to adjust replenishment settings, negotiate returns, and align on strategy. (15% time)
- Travel. Regular travel between store locations is required. (30% time)
Qualifications :
• Strong analytical skills (Excel, pivot tables, data filtering).
• Ability to challenge both corporate systems and peer decisions constructively.
• Respected by store staff with strong communication and training skills.
• Comfortable working across multiple store locations and with corporate contacts.
• Understands the financial impact of inventory decisions.
