Job Description

Our client is seeking a Business Data Architect (BDA) to support a transformative enterprise data initiative. This role blends elements of data architecture, business architecture, and business analysis to design and implement a future-ready data framework that drives business value, analytics efficiency, and data integrity. The BDA will play a key role in evaluating current-state systems, defining future-state data requirements, and enabling a data-driven culture across the organization.

This position sits within the customer’s central analytics team, collaborating closely with clinicians, IT, and data reporting teams. The successful candidate will ensure alignment between business operations, clinical workflows, and enterprise data strategy, particularly within the Epic ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with stakeholders to analyze and document current business and clinical processes, ensuring alignment with enterprise data governance and reporting standards.
  • Guide the design, build, and implementation of Epic systems to align with enterprise data architecture and analytics strategy.
  • Facilitate discovery sessions with business and technical stakeholders to assess current-state Epic build, data models, and database design, and define future-state requirements.
  • Develop and maintain business process maps, functional requirements, and architecture decision documentation.
  • Evaluate existing data models and systems, identifying gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for remediation or enhancement.
  • Present detailed reports and recommendations to leadership on architecture decisions and their downstream impact.
  • Document data lineage and metadata across upstream and downstream applications for critical data elements.
  • Ensure data integrity and traceability through decision matrices and documentation of key trade-offs and business justifications.
  • Translate business requirements into scalable, well-documented data collection, management, and reporting processes.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in data warehousing and multi-layered data architecture design using relational and dimensional modeling.
  • 8+ years of experience integrating data at logical and physical levels.
  • 8+ years of experience with multiple DBMS platforms (SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, Teradata, etc.).
  • Demonstrated success translating complex business needs into actionable data solutions.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, data lineage, and metadata management.
  • Proficiency in Erwin, Toad, or comparable data modeling tools.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and consultative skills.
  • Proven experience eliciting business requirements and developing conceptual and logical data models.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Science, Computer Science, Math, Engineering, Business, or related quantitative field (Master’s preferred).

Preferred Skills & Certifications

  • Experience with data manipulation and statistical analysis using SQL, R, or Python.
  • Certification in Epic Clarity data model and other Epic clinical or financial data models (required).
  • Epic Cogito PM certification highly preferred.
