Let Us Tell You About this Position:

Equity ECS is a full service commercial real estate firm. Our comprehensive platform includes development, construction, brokerage, and property management services that are tailored to provide solutions to each client’s needs. This role will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations related to a portfolio of managed properties, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, compliance with internal controls, and adherence to GAAP. This role supports the Controller and acts as a liaison between the accounting team, property management teams, and asset management teams to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of financial information.

Responsibilities/Execution:

  • Supervise month-end close process for assigned properties, including journal entries, accruals, and general ledger reconciliations. Review and finalize monthly property financial statements and variance analyses for accuracy and completeness.
  • Monitor and enforce internal controls to ensure integrity of financial reporting and compliance with company policies.
  • Oversee accounts receivable and cash management functions for managed properties. Manage fixed asset capitalization, depreciation schedules, and reconciliations.
  • Assist with annual budgeting and reforecasting. Support CAM (Common Area Maintenance), real estate tax, and insurance reconciliations.
  • Collaborate with property management and asset management teams to address financial inquiries.
  • Review lease abstracts and ensure proper revenue recognition in accordance with lease terms.
  • Manage investor accounting process. Oversee investor setup, distributions and deal set ups in Yardi. Prepare private equity fund financial statements and assist with annual fund audits.
  • Assist with system implementations, process improvements, and automation initiatives.
  • Train, mentor, and supervise property accountants by providing hands-on supervision, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities.
  • Establish and uphold standards of accuracy, accountability, and timeliness in reporting.
  • Champion a collaborative team culture with a focus on process efficiency and service to internal stakeholders and investors.
  • Demonstrate integrity and consistency in decision-making, modeling the company’s values and financial discipline.
  • Effectively prioritize tasks, delegate responsibilities, and manage competing deadlines.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • Minimum 7 years of accounting experience with 3 years of leadership, preferably in a property management accounting or real estate environment.
  • CPA preferred or actively pursuing.

Core Competencies

  • Strong understanding of US GAAP, particularly as it applies to real estate and revenue recognition.
  • Proficiency in property management/accounting systems. (Yardi Voyager strongly preferred)
  • Advanced Excel skills; ability to analyze large datasets and create pivot tables, XLOOKUPs, date functions, etc.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
