Swing Shift: Saturday (8 AM to 4 PM); Sunday-Monday (off); Tues-Wed (12 AM to 8 AM); Thurs-Fri (4 PM to 12 AM) Job Summary: Responsible for the safe operation of the Water Treatment Plant, providing biologically and chemically safe water for human consumption. Major Responsibilities: Operates equipment to purify and clarify water for human consumption, industrial use, and fire protection. Collects representative water samples from the plant and performs chemical, physical, and bacteriological tests to assure water quality; submits samples for testing as required. Determines and adds specified amounts of chemicals, such as chlorine, to disinfect, deodorize, and clarify water. Calibrates equipment and adjusts chemical feeders for optimal treated water output. Monitors computers, charts, dials, pumps, chemical feeders, laboratory equipment, meters, and gauges to determine status of various plant functions. Reads and records chemical usage; fills chemical feeders; mixes chemicals; changes reagents. Maintains filing system of operations and maintenance reports. Checks motors and pumps for excessive noise and temperatures. Ensures water treatment plant is safe and secure. Performs plant maintenance, grounds keeping, and housekeeping duties. Adjusts output to meet demands. Removes sludge from settling basin. Available to be reached during off hours in the event of an emergency. Available for shift work as needed. Performs other duties as assigned, including assisting other departments as required.
